Dragonstone is the name of the island located at the entrance of Blackwater Bay. It is the original seat of House Targaryen, and when the Targaryens conquered Westeros, it became the seat of the heir apparent. It was originally the westernmost of the Valyrian Freehold.

After Robert's Rebellion, and the two remaining members of House Targaryen having fled, Robert gave Dragonstone to his brother, Stannis, and so the castle and it's lands became the seat of House Baratheon of Dragonstone.
